Noelle Turner

Noelle Turner (b. 1993) is a British artist based in London. She studied Fine Art at The Ruskin School
of Art, University of Oxford, 2015, and is currently studying part-time MFA Fine Art at Goldsmiths
University. Her practice spans painting, writing, sculpture and installation, that speculate on
possible alternate worlds existing in the present. These speculations explore how unconscious
binary ways of thinking might place limitations on our understanding of reality as we split matter in
half: where one thing exists, the opposite cannot. The work uses art as meditative practice
exploring the presence of contradictions in all things, and stress the importance of balance: chaos
vs control, lightness vs weight, vibrancy vs monochrome, liquid vs solid. This is meditated on
through a heightened sensitivity to material used in painting and sculpture, focusing on allowing
materials to speak and take control of the outcome of the work, at moments regaining control. A
key concern is the rupture between the spiritual inner, and the material outer world, exploring how
art can act as a mediator between the two. Recent exhibitions include ‘Ancient Vessels’, APT
Gallery, London (2022), ‘Dragon Vets’, Fitzrovia Gallery, London (2022), Solo show: ‘Heat’, 3331
Arts Chiyoda, Tokyo (2022), ‘Tarmac’, No Format Gallery, London (2022). Last summer, Noelle
completed a residency at 3331 Arts Chiyoda, in Tokyo, Japan (2022).
